Intro
After the constricting lifestyle of the 1950s, a spur of rebellion and contemporary views that violated what was considered the “norm” within the American society took hold of the youth culture. The 1960s brought a counterculture that was influenced by the civil rights movement, constricting expectations, and social outrage in regards to the Vietnam war.
Historical Question

Thesis
The counterculture of the 60s and 70s rejected societal norms through outlets of music, anti-war sentiments, feminism, gay liberation, and drug experimentation. This deviance was frowned upon by mainstream society, and framed the social and political endeavors of the time.
